This page is for the young adults and teens among us.

  • U'th, Website, and Growth (0) August 27, 2011 Will Moyers

I am really excited. So much is going on right now that is really hard to focus on one thing.  But I’m going to do my best to do an update some of the obvious changes.

    Youth

In the last few months our teen Sunday school has exploded in attendance from 0 to 12. That’s an awesome start and I suspect that we will see that number continue to grow. We are on the verge of starting some youth group type of activities now that we actually have a “group”.  If you’re a teen or know a teen in need of some churchin’, make sure you’re there on Sunday morning. The next few weeks we will be covering really important foundational doctrine and deciding stuff like a youth group name and logo, and what type of outings to have.

    Website

If you are reading this, you probably have seen some of the changes to the FWC site already. There are a bunch of new functions to use and I’ve spent some time prettying it up with new logos, graphics, and structure.

Here are a few of the new features

    • Translations- one click translations to several languages including Spanish, German, and Hebrew.
    • Facebook integration- we now have a Facebook app that transfers comments and posts back and forth. If you are logged in to Facebook, you can comment here without having to log in.
    • New logo- the one that’s posted is a temporary one, we will have a finalized version soon but any feedback on this one is welcome.

    Growth

As many of you know, we have a new daughter work starting in northern Rockdale county. What you probably don’t know is that this is part of a greater growth project, a vision for this local church body.  Bible studies, outreach, fellowship, hispanic ministry…. The list goes on and on and on. It’s an exciting time so get plugged in and work together to achieve our pastors vision.

  • So You're a Christian Huh? (0) August 26, 2011 Will Moyers

So, to be a Christian is to be a  follower of Christ. You’re changing the way you do things every day to be more in line with the way He is.  If you’re not doing that, then you’re not a Christian.

Following Christ means you will come up against some hard decisions in your life.  You will have to look at the way you do things from a different perspective.  With that in mind, let me ask you some questions.

Q: Do you do everything to the best of your ability?

Jesus certainly did, and you should make a habit out of maximizing your efforts. Of course there will be times that you don’t feel like going the extra mile at work, or showing up early for church to pray. Life happens and we all get discouraged, but when you find yourself slogging through the day, shake it off and have a WWJD attitude (that’s What Would Jesus Do for those of you who weren’t around for the bracelet fad) .

Q: Do you complain when things go wrong?

Well of course you do, you’re human just like me. There’s nothing like a complaint filled rant to vent your frustrations. Jesus Himself appeared to complain a little when His disciples didn’t stay up and pray as the time of his death drew near. It is a natural thing, but not a very productive one. Christ knew what His purpose was and that He would have to overcome some tremendous obstacles and endure extreme hardship but He kept moving and ministering through it all. Next time the proverbial “poop hits the fan” go grab some toilet paper and get to work. You’ll get more accomplished by working through your troubles than by complaining about them.

Remember that you are a walking testimony of Christ. When you claim to be a Christian but argue, complain, and carry a poor attitude, you do Him no service.  I write about this because I am supremely guilty of it and have to remind myself daily to push through. We can all do better in the way we carry ourselves.

Have you ever had to give yourself an attitude adjustment? Did changing the way you approach something help you get through a difficult time? Tell me about your experiences in the comments below.

  • Sunday Morning Classes (0) June 19, 2011 Will Moyers

Finally!  We have managed to split the Sunday School classes up so that the teens are all on their own.  Now we just have to find space for them.

For now, Pastor Harvey has graciously allowed us to use his office for a classroom and we can’t thank him enough. The leather swivel chairs and the big conference table set a pretty cool atmosphere for Sunday morning lessons.

  • Grace (Skit Guys) (0) April 24, 2011 Will Moyers

I love the Skit Guys.  When you have time, you should check out their site and cruise through their videos. They have some really funny and powerful stuff there.  This skit about Grace is just in time for Easter.

  • Music! (0) April 24, 2011 Will Moyers

So I’ve checked out Christian rock, hip hop, and rap before and always enjoyed the songs I found the first time or two that I heard them. Then they got old…. really old.  So I ignored the contemporary Christian music scene for a few years.  This weekend, I picked up one of those cheap cds that feature up and coming artists from Lifeway and I must admit that I am impressed.  Maybe the newness of these songs will wear off like the hits from a few years back but I doubt it.  The production quality, lyrics, and overall sound of some of these new artists are really good. One of my stand out favorites so far is an artist named Jimmy Needham.  Below is a video of a song he performed with Trip Lee another Christian artist (hip hop/ rap). Check this out and check back often for more videos from new artists.
